CP24 invades Capital One Celebrity Bonspiel
Live television broadcast kicks off 2012 event
CP24 and its popular “Breakfast LIVE EYE” came out bright and early to the 2012 Capital One Celebrity Bonspiel in support of SickKids Foundation!
CP24 Breakfast host Jamie and camera guru Ken arrived at 6:30am on Day One of the event (June 1) accompanied by a bleary-eyed but keen group of Cricket curling members who volunteered for the show. By 7:10am, CP24 was broadcasting live from the Toronto Cricket curling ice to hundreds of thousands of TV viewers in the Greater Toronto Area.

CP24 Breakfast host Jamie gets a sweeping lesson from Erin Carmody on live television
First up was Cricket curler Geoff Pearson, who taught Jamie the curling slide delivery (well done Jamie!) and then described the Capital One Celebrity Bonspiel and its fundraising mandate. Impressed by Geoff’s knowledge and curling prowess, Jamie declared Geoff to be the “CP24 “Athlete of the Week” – and the celebratory confetti was thrown.
Next up was celebrity skip Erin Carmody of Calgary (by way of Prince Edward Island), who co-hosted two live hits with Jamie while the volunteers curled up a storm. Jamie appeared to struggle with his sweeping lesson, and commented – as so many novices do – on how difficult the unexpected cardiovascular work actually is.
Erin and Jamie also led the group in a colourful display of on-ice boogie, as part of the CP24 Breakfast “Friday Dance Party”.
Following Erin was celebrity skip Cissi Ostlund of Sweden, who helped Jamie understand the nuances of yelling, ie. sweeping calls. Cissi proceeded to baffle Jamie by calling for the sweep in her native Swedish, and the two hollered loudly and proudly as the brushes scrubbed furiously.
By 9:00am the show was over, and the 2012 edition of the Capital One Celebrity Bonspiel for SickKids Foundation was officially underway.
Kudos and thanks from the organizing committee to the hardcore curlers who volunteered their early-morning time; to celebrity skips Erin Carmody, Cissi Ostlund and Pierre Charette for their quick turnaround from the previous night’s festivities; to Cricket member Rob Maddock for his assistance; and to CP24 for selecting the Capital One Celebrity Bonspiel for SickKids Foundation as a host for their Breakfast LIVE EYE broadcast!
